TARA and InnoCSR Introduce the Good Bricks Technology in West Bengal

Seminar in West Bengal brings low-carbon, non-fired brick technology to members of the region's brick kiln industry

HOWRAH, WEST BENGAL, INDIA, August 27, 2026 - Technology and Action for Rural Advancement (TARA), the social enterprise of the Development Alternatives Group, in its strategic partnership with InnoCSR, hosted a seminar on eco-friendly brick solutions on August 26, 2026, at Nirala Resort in Howrah, West Bengal.

The event introduced the Good Bricks System, InnoCSR's flagship non-fired brick technology, to members of the Howrah Brick Kiln Association to raise awareness of the technology's benefits and business economics, and encourage adoption among brick manufacturers and builders across West Bengal.

Around 60 attendees took part in the seminar, including Tanmoy Shee, secretary of the Howrah Brick Kiln Association, and Arup Kr. Manna, president of the Howrah Brick Kiln Association, alongside brick kiln owners and operators from across the different districts of West Bengal.

The seminar opened with a presentation on the partnership between InnoCSR and TARA, outlining how the collaboration is working to bring low-carbon construction solutions to brick manufacturers across India. This was followed by a presentation about the Good Bricks System by Chief Technical Officer, Dr. Soumen Maity, covering its production process, machinery, and the quality, cost, and environmental advantages the technology offers over conventional fired-brick manufacturing.

"This is the future, and it's where our industry needs to be headed," said Arup Kr. Manna, president of the Howrah Brick Kiln Association.

The Good Bricks System uses soil-stabilizer technology to produce non-fired bricks that meet global quality, strength and water absorption as per IS code without firing, eliminating the fossil fuel consumption and associated emissions of traditional brick manufacturing.

For brick kiln owners in West Bengal, the technology offers a pathway to work together to modernize operations while reducing their environmental footprint and operating costs. Additionally, it would also pave the way for carbon credits to reach brick kiln owners.

The Howrah seminar builds on the ongoing partnership between InnoCSR and TARA, which was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in New Delhi in May 2024 to introduce Good Bricks to the Indian market.

The two organizations previously hosted a seminar on Good Bricks in New Delhi in September 2025, and the technology has already been adopted in Nepal and other regions in India. As India works toward its 2070 net-zero emissions target, engagements such as this seminar aim to build awareness and momentum for low-carbon solutions within the country's brick manufacturing sector, one of its largest industrial contributors to emissions.
